This ride continues west from the Crown Dam site which is at the head of the Lerderderg Heritage River Walk. It follows a course between Lerderderg Road and the river for approximately 2 kms and then crosses the Lerderderg Road and tracks the road from thereon. I surveyed the route up to Loam Ridge Track. This is the route in light yellow in the map above.
The following photo gallery has been taken in order from the Crown Dam area for a distance of approximately 4 kms. The trail keeps going after this point.

When you get to the post in the 3rd picture, head left and uphill. There is a very steep slope which will take you up onto a knoll - you will probably have to walk this section, it's very steep and the leaf litter makes it slippery in the wet.

Heading up to knoll and finally on top - you rise about 60 metres in about 200 metres according to the topographical map and suddenly you're well above the gorge.

Views across the gorge and then riding along the knoll. Quite a few rocks but readily rideable. |

Keep following pointers and you will arrive at Wheelers Track and Lerderderg Road intersection before dropping down to the river and the Wheeler's Road river crossing bridge shown above. Sign at Wheelers Road intersection with river which states that Wheelers timber mill and a number of tramways which fed it with timber were located in the area.

Keep following pointers and you will finally reach sign post at Wheelers Road and Lerderderg Road intersection as shown in last photo.
Below are photos of this section of the trail. The initial section had quite a number of trees fallen. The ride through this section is fairly slow (ie not a fast trail) and follows the Lerderderg Road on the high side of the road.
